At what point can the Police use force and what happens when they do? Let’s first of all look at what it means to use force. When police use force, it essentially entails the means of compelling compliance or overcoming resistance to an officer’s command in order to protect life or property or to take a person into custody. That force may be verbal, physical, impact, chemical, electronic or firearm.
